Send a fax manually – dial the number, confirm the fax tone, then press .FAX START The other party complains that letters on their received document are distorted or not clear. l If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect the unit to a line that does not have these services. l The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up the extension telephone and try again. l Try copying the document. If the copied image is clear, there may be something wrong with the other party’s machine. The other party complains that dirty patterns or black lines appear on their received document. l The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 82). I cannot make an international fax call. l Use the overseas transmission mode of feature #23 (p. 67). l Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 19) or dial manually. Decrease the number of rings of features #06 (p. 65), #30 (p. 67) and #78 (p. 71). l The greeting message is too long. Shorten the message (p. 54)(KX-FP185/KX-FM189 only). The display shows the following message but faxes are not received. CONNECTING..... l The incoming call is not a fax. A blank sheet is ejected. l If a blank sheet is ejected after the received document is printed out, the receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly. Program the proper rate in feature #36 (p. 68). l The other party placed the document in their fax machine the wrong way. Check with the other party. Receive mode Problem Cause & Remedy I cannot select the desired receive mode. l If you want to set the FAX ONLY, TEL/FAX or TAD/FAX (KX-FP185/KX-FM189 only) mode: — Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 71), and — Press to turn on the arrow (t ) on the right of the display. Display: ON l If you want to set the TEL mode: — Press to turn off the arrow (t ) on the right of the display. AUTO ANSWER t AUTO ANSWER ON The other party complains that they cannot send a document. l The unit is not in AUTO ANSWER mode. Press to turn on the arrow (t ) on the right of the display. ON t AUTO ANSWER Copying Problem Cause & Remedy The unit does not make a copy. l You cannot make a copy during programming. Make the copy after programming or stop the programming. A dirty pattern or a black line appears on the copied document. l The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 82). The copied image is distorted. l The thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 82).
