It is also supplied with two beakers, which can be conveniently stored inside the empty kettle. The practical carrying case means that you can easily carry it on any journey. SAFETY TIPS Do not use an extension cable. The kettle must not be immersed in water or any other liquid, as there will be a risk of electric shock. Nor should it be placed near a wash basin or sink. REMOVE THE PLUG FROM THE SOCKET - Before filling the kettle - Before cleaning the kettle - If a fault occurs during use - During a thunderstorm - When you are not using the kettle • Do not leave the kettle unattended while in operation. • Children are not aware of the dangers posed by improper use of electrical devices. This product should not be used by children. • While in use, the outside of the kettle will become hot. Keep the kettle and the flex away from sources of heat. • The flex must be fully extended during use. • During use, steam may emit from the steam outlets. If steam comes into contact with skin, scalding may occur. • The heating element requires a longer cooling time. If it is touched before it has cooled sufficiently; there is a risk of burning. • In order not to damage the electrical safety, the heating element must not be touched with hard objects. • Do not use the kettle if it or the flex has visible damage. • If the flex of the kettle is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its customer service center or a similar qualified person in order to avoid risks. • Do not dismantle the kettle. Improper repairs may pose considerable risks for the user. Repairs to electrical devices and their flexes must therefore only be carried out in a specialist workshop or at our service center. The kettle is only intended for private use. • If this kettle is passed on to another person, these user instructions must also be provided. 3 Vt-1124.qxd 26.11.03 12:02 Page 8 ENGLISH USER INSTRUCTIONS Although the kettle is equipped with a boil-dry cut-out switch, it must not be operated without water, if the boil-dry cut-out switch has been tripped, allow the kettle to cool down completely before reusing it. In order to remove any possible manufacturing residue, you should fill the kettle to the maximum level, boil it and throw away the water before using the kettle for the first time. 1. Take the lid off the kettle and remove both beakers. 2. Extend the flex fully. 3. Fill the kettle with the required volume of water. In so doing, do not exceed the "Max" mark in the container. You must add at least enough water to ensure that the gray heating element is covered. Put the lid back on. 4. Place the kettle on a level surface. 5. Plug the kettle into an easily accessible socket with earth contacts. 6. Push the ON switch to start. The control light will indicate that it is on. (It is possible for the ON switch to be accidentally pressed. This will not damage the kettle.) 7. As soon as the water boils, turn the kettle off and the control light will go out. 8. Unplug the kettle from the socket. Do not reheat water standing in the kettle. Pour it away. If you are operating the kettle with a lower voltage, e.g. 120 V, the boiling time will be correspondingly extended.
