Make any needed repairs or replacement before using your power tool. CHUCK ON NON-REVERSING DRILLS UNPLUG DRILL Turn collar to open chuck jaws. Insert bit into chuck as far as it will go. Tighten chuck collar by hand. Place chuck key in each of the three holes, and tighten in clockwise direction. It’s important to tighten chuck with all three holes. To release bit, turn chuck key counterclockwise in just one hole, then loosen chuck by hand. To remove the chuck from the Drill, for using a threaded shank accessory or for chuck replacement, first unplug the tool. Insert the key in the chuck and tap it sharply in the direction the tool normally rotates — see above. This will loosen the chuck shank threads and the chuck may be unscrewed by hand. REVERSING DRILLS On reversing drills first open chuck jaws and remove screw in bottom of chuck. (Left hand thread) Do not lubricate the three chuck jaws or the inside of the chuck; however, a light film of oil can be applied to the outside of the chuck to prevent any rust from forming. OPERATION SWITCH To lock trigger in “ON” position when using accessories, depress trigger and push up locking button “B”, Figure 3, then gently release trigger. To release locking mechanism, depress trigger fully, then release it. TWO SPEED SWITCH OPERATION To start Drill, depress trigger switch; to stop Drill, release trigger. When trigger is depressed past halfway point in its travel, motor speed changes from low to high. This change is audible. To lock trigger in “ON” position for continuous operation, depress trigger and push up locking button (located just below the trigger), then gently release trigger. To release locking mechanism, depress trigger fully, then release it. NOTE: Use lower speeds for STARTING HOLES WITHOUT A PUNCH, DRILLING IN METAL OR PLASTICS, DRIVING OR REMOVING SCREWS, DRILLING CERAMICS, OR MIXING PAINT. Higher speeds are better for DRILLING WOODS AND COMPOSITION BOARDS, AND FOR USING ABRASIVE AND POLISHING ACCESSORIES. The Variable Speed Trigger Switch permits speed control — the farther the trigger is depressed, the higher the speed of the drill. Trigger can only be “locked on” at high speed setting. VARIABLE SPEED TRIGGER SWITCH WITH CONTROL BUTTON: No. 7190-04 drills only: (a) For normal operations, rotate the Variable Speed Control Button (“A, Figure 3) clockwise until it stops. This permits “FREE HAND” speed control — the farther the trigger is depressed, the higher the R.P.M. (b) To set the trigger switch to produce a selected speed each time it is squeezed, first rotate the Control Button clockwise until it stops. Fully depress trigger, and with the Drill running at highest R.P.M., press in the Switch Locking Button. Release trigger and the tool will stay “ON.” Now, rotate the Control Button counterclockwise and you will notice a decrease in R.P.M. Continue rotating Button until desired speed is obtained. To turn Drill “OFF” squeeze trigger and release. NOTE: If unit fails to function or only runs in slow speed ensure that control button (“A” Fig. 3) is backed out completely in a clockwise direction. I REVERSING SWITCH OPERATION (No. 7190-04, 7127-04, 7224-04 Drills Only); For removing screws or easing drill bits out of tight holes, slide the Reversing Switch, Figure 4, toward “R” to reverse the drill motor. The trigger switch should be released to the “OFF” position before moving the reversing switch. After any reversing operations, return switch to the forward, “F” position. SIDE HANDLE: Drop the hexagon-head bolt into the handle and shake the handle if necessary until the bolt threads protrude at the bottom. Grasp the threads with two fingers and, pulling down, twist the bolt until it will no longer turn (there is a hexagon-shaped recess inside the handle and the bolt s...
