• The remote control may not operate correctly when: -The line of sight between the remote control and the unit is exposed to intense light, such as direct sunlight -There is fluorescent lighting near the remote sensor in the display window. -Other remote controls are used nearby (those of a TV set, etc.). PREPARATIONS 19 20 Getting ready to play • Turn on the television, and set its video source (Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, etc.) to the one connected to the DVD player. • Turn on the audio device connected to the DVD player. Set its input source to the one connected to the DVD player. 1 Press POWER. The power comes on, and the 6STANDBY/ON indicator turns green. 2 Press zOPEN / CLOSE. The disc tray opens. 3 Load a disc. Place a disc in the tray guides (depression), with the label side facing up. When loading an 8-cm disc, place it in the inner depression. 4 Press zOPEN / CLOSE. The disc tray closes, and the DVD player automatically begins to play the disc. If the disc does not begin to play, press c. • If a disc is placed in upside down, “DISC Error” will be indicated. RANDOM ALL A B 3 2,4 c Numbered buttons 2,4 About the symbol display • The symbol will be displayed on the screen if you press a button which cannot be used or enter an incorrect number. • Some DVD discs may have places where they do not allow pressing of the STOP, SKIP, or other buttons. The mark will be displayed on the screen if you press a button that is not allowed in such a place. 1 C TOP MENU i/k/j/l/ENTER vRETURN a 1 PLAYBACK i/k/j/l/ ENTER a MENU MENU s s Video CD with PBC: VCD CD/Video CD without PBC: CHP/TRKVCD “CD” is displayed when loading a CD. When the menu screen is displayed The menu screen may be displayed first after loading a DVD or VCD which contains a menu. DVD: Use ikjl to select the program you would like to view, then press ENTER to begin playback. Press TOP MENU or MENU to return to the menu screen. VCD: Use the numbered buttons to select the program you would like to view. Press vRETURN to return to the menu screen. For either DVD or VCDs, menu continuations and the exact operating procedures for using the menu may vary from disc to disc. Follow the instructions on the menu screen. Tips This unit equips the Playback Control(PBC) On/Off function. After turning off the PBC, the unit can be play back the entire Video CD without returning to the menu screen, just like audio CDs. See "CHANGING SETUP VALUE", page 39. To turn the power off Press POWER. The unit enters the power standby mode, and the 6STANDBY/ON indicator turns red. If 8 minutes have elapsed without performing any operation The unit enters the standby mode.Therefore, if you start repeat playback, for example, and leave the unit without performing any other operation for 8 minutes, the unit will stop and enter the standby mode. Still (Pause) Press aduring playback. To return to normal playback Press c. Frame Advance (DVD, VCD) Press awhile the disc is paused. Each time you press the button, the program advances one frame. There is no audio when doing Frame Advance. To return to normal playback Press c. Stopping playback Press s. When s is pressed during playback, the DVD player remembers the point at which playback stopped. To resume play from the point where it stopped Press c. To clear the point to be resumed Press sagain. When zOPEN/CLOSE is pressed to open the disc tray or POWER is pressed to turn the power off, the point to be resumed is also cleared. NOTES • The disc continues to spin while the menu screen is displayed even if sis pressed. When you are finished using the DVD player, turn the power off after pressing s. • During a VCD playback with the PBC feature turned on, resume function does not work. Performing fast forward, fast reverse, or skipping operations during VCD playback with PBC on may cause the DVD player to return to the menu screen. BASIC OPERATIONS 21 PLAYBACK (CONTINUED) Fast Forward, Reverse Skipping Press gor fon the remote control during playback. Each time you press the button, the playback speed becomes faster as shown below. DVD: . 2 . 4 . 16 . 100 Video CD: . 2 . 4 . 8 The playback speed is fixed to .2 during playback of CDs. To return to normal playback Press c. NOTES • There is no audio during DVD or Video CD playback. • The search speed is the value of a disc which has an average bit rate. In some discs, the speed displayed on the display window may be different from the actual speed. Slow Playback (DVD/VCD) Press F.SLOW or B.SLOW during playback. The playback speed changes each time the button is pressed, as shown below.
