6 3 IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped without gasoline or oil in the engine. Fill up gasoline and oil as instructed in the accompanying engine manual BEFORE operating your mower. NOTE: Reference to right or left side of the mower is observed from the operating position. Handle Setup 1. Perform the following sequence for handle setup a. Lift the upper handle up from folded position and pull it to extended position (A) following the arrow in Step 1. The handle should click into this position. b. Make sure the carriage bolt is seated properly in the handle. Tighten wing nuts (B) securing upper handle to the lower handle. 2. Locate hairpin clip in one hole on the weld pin on each side of lower handle. a. Remove hairpin clip from this hole. Using a pair of pliers, insert hairpin clip into the other hole on the weld pin. Repeat on other side. See Step 2. 3. Rope guide Setup as follows in Step 3: a. Hold the blade control handle against the upper handle. Position A. b. Slowly pull starter rope out of the engine. Position B. c. Slip starter rope into the rope guide. Position C. d. Tighten rope guide wing nut. Position D. NOTE: Reference to right or left side of the mower is observed from the operating position. Step 2 Step 3 7 3 4. Insert post on cable ties into holes provided on the lower handle. Pull cable tie tight and trim excess. See Step 4 illustration. Wheel Height Adjustment 5. Each wheel has a height adjustment lever to change the cutting height of the mower. Depress height adjustment lever towards the wheel and slide lever to desired position for a change in cutting height. See Step 5 illustration. Converting To Side Discharge 6. Your mower has been shipped as a mulcher. To convert it to a side-discharge mower, lift the mulching plug (A). Slide the two hooks on the side-discharge deflector under the hinge pin on the mulching plug assembly (B). Lower the mulching plug. See Step 6 illustration. 3 Setup and Adjustment Step 4 CUTTING HEIGHT Step 5 All wheels must be placed in the same relative position. For rough or uneven lawns, move the height adjustment lever to a higher position. This will stop scalping of grass. IMPORTANT This unit is shipped without gasoline or oil in the engine. Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel the machine indoors or while the engine is hot or running. Extinguish cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other sources of ignition. Now that you have set up your lawn mower for operation, get acquainted with its controls and features. These are described below and illustrated this page. This knowledge will allow you to use your new equipment to its fullest potential. Blade Control Handle The blade control handle is attached to the upper handle of the mower. Depress the blade control handle to operate the unit. Release it to stop engine and blade. WARNING: This blade control mechanism is a safety device. Never attempt to bypass its operations. Throttle Control Your engine is equipped with a constant speed throttle, which is set at full throttle for best performance. Cutting Height Adjustment Levers One adjustment lever is located on each wheel and is used to adjust the cutting height. All four levers have to be at the same relative position to ensure uniform cut. Recoil Starter The recoil starter is attached to the right upper handle. Stand behind the unit and pull the recoil starter rope to start the unit. Mulching Plug The mulching plug is used only for mulching purposes. This process recirculates the clippings back to the lawn. Do not operate the mower if the mulching plug is not firmly situated on the unit. Gas and Oil Fill-Up 1. Check oil level and add oil if necessary. Follow the instructions in the engine operator’s manual. 2. Service the engine with gasoline as instructed in the engine operator’s manual. See Figure 1 above for location of gas cap. WARNING: Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel the machine indoors or while the engine is hot or running. Extinguish cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other sources of ignition. 9 4 WARNING: The operation of any lawn mower can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes, which can damage your eyes severely. Always wear safety glasses while operating the mower, or while performing any adjustments or repairs on it.
