Chargethe mower. 11 USING YOUR LAWN MOWER Theoperationof any lawnmowercan resultinforeignobjectsbeing thrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyesseverely.Always wearsafetyglasseswhileoperatingthe mower,orwhile performing an adustmentsorre arsont. • Besurethatlawnisclearofstones,sticks,wires,orotherobjects whichcoulddamagethelawn moweror motor.Suchobjects couldbeaccidentallythrownby the mowerinany directionand causeseriouspersonalinjuryto the operatorandothers. If youstrikea foreignobject,stopthemotor,andremovethekey. Thoroughlyinspectthe mowerforany damage,and repairthe damagebeforerestartingand operatingthe mower.Excessive vibrationof the mowerduringoperationis an indicationof damage. Theunit shouldbepromptlyinspectedandrepaired. Whenusingthe sidedischarge,the mosteffectivemowingpattern is onethatallowsthe clippingsto dischargetowardsthe uncut part of the lawn. o DO NOTuse mowerinthe rain. o Fora healthylawn,alwayscut offone-thirdor lessofthetotal lengthof the grass. Forbestresults,donotcutwetgrassbecauseittendsto stick totheundersideof thedeckpreventingpropermulchingor dischargeofgrassclippings.Newor thickgrassmayrequirea narrowercut. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperforming anytypeof maintenance. Thewarrantyon thislawnmowerdoesnotcoveritemsthathave beensubjectedtooperatorabuseor negligence.Toreceivefull valuefromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe lawnmoweras instructedhere. • AIiadjustmentsshouldbecheckedatleastonceeachseason. • Periodicallycheckall fastenersandmakesurethesearetight. LUBRICATION Alwaysstopthe motorandremovekeybeforecleaning,lubricating or performinganyrepairsor maintenanceonthelawnmower. Alwayswearsafetyglassesduringoperationorwhileperformingany adjustmentsor repairs. Lubricatethewheelsatleastoncea seasonwithlightoil (ormotor oil).If wheelsareremovedforanyreason,lubricatesurfaceofthe pivotarm andinnersurfaceof the wheelwithlightoil. DECK CARE The undersideof mowerdeckshouldbecleanedaftereachuseas grassclippings,leaves,dirt andotherdebriswill accumulate.This accumulationof grassclippings,etc.,isundesirableasitwillpromote rustandcorrosion. 1. Removeanybuildupofgrassandleavesonoraroundthemotor cover(donotusewater).Wipethemowercleanwitha drycloth occasionally. Toreducethe riskof electricshock,donot exposethe mowerto water. 2. Ifdebrisisallowedtobuildupontheundersideoftheunit,tiltthe mowerandscrapeitcleanwitha suitabletool(makecertainthe keyis removed). REPLACING TRAILING SHIELD Neveroperatemowerunlessthe trailingshieldis inplaceand working.Neveroperatemowerwithdamagedsafetydevices.Failure to doso,can resultinpersonalinjury. The trailingshieldis subjectto wearanddamagewhichcouldexpose movingpartsorallowobjectsto bethrown.Forsafetyprotection, frequentlycheckthe trailingshieldand replaceimmediatelywith originalequipmentmanufacturer's(OEM)partonly,listedinthis manual. Toremovetrailingshield,lift reardoor,andbend(bow)thetrailing shieldinwardoneachside to releasetabsfromthe holesinthe mowerframe.SeeFigure11. Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyif you strikea foreignobject.Replacewhen necessary.Followthe steps belowfor bladeservice.
