CORD RESTRAINT Thecord restraintis locatedonthe backof the upperhandle,and whenusedproperly,helpsto protectthe motor/bladecontroland extensioncord poweringthe unit. CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT LEVER Thecuttingheightadjustmentleveris locatedabovethe left rear wheel.Toadjustthe cuttingheight,referto the AssemblySection. STARTING MOTOR Avoidaccidentalstarting.Makesureyouarein theoperatingposition behindthe mowerwhen usingit.Toavoidseriousinjury,the operator andunitshouldbe ina stablepositionwhilestarting. Connecting to an Electrical Power Source This mowershouldbeoperatedon a 15or 20 AMPcircuit.If you experiencedifficultyin startingwitha standard15AMPfuseorcircuit breaker,contactyour nearestSearsor otherqualifiedservicedealer. STOPPING THE MOTOR Thebladecontinuesto rotateforafewsecondsafterthemotoris shutoff.If motordoesnotcometo a stopwhenthemotor/blade controlhandleisreleased,contacta Searsorotherauthorized servicedealer. Releasetheblade/motorcontrolhandleto stopthemotorandblade. USING YOUR LAWN MOWER Besurethatlawnisclearof stones,sticks,wires,orotherobjects whichcoulddamagethelawnmoweror motor.Suchobjectscouldbe accidentallythrownby the mowerinany directionandcauseserious personalinjuryto theoperatorandothers. Ifyoustrikea foreignobject,stopthemotor,and unplugfromthe powersupplycircuit.Thoroughlyinspectthe mowerfor any damage, and repairthedamagebeforerestartingandoperatingthemower. Excessivevibrationof the mowerduringoperationis an indicationof damage.The unit shouldbepromptlyinspectedandrepaired. To preventelectricshock,do notoperatethe mowerin dampor wetconditions. • Alwaysstartfromthepointclosesttothepowersourcewherethe cord is connected.Nevermowaroundthe lawn incircles;travel backandforthacrossthe lawn,startingfromthe pointclosestto the outletandthenmovingawayfromtheoutletso the cordlies in the cut portionof the lawn,out of the way. • Donot allowthe extensioncord to wraparoundtrees,shrubs or otherobstacles.Whenpickinguptheextensioncord,wind thecordina seriesofequalloopson eachsideofyourhandto preventsnarling. USING AS MULCHER Formulchinggrass,removethegrasscatcheror sidedischargechute fromthe mower.Foreffectivemulching,donot cutwetgrass. Ifthe grasshas beenallowedto grow inexcessof four inches,mulchingis notrecommended.Usethegrasscatcherto bagclippingsinstead. USING GRASS CATCHER Youcanuse the grasscatcherto collectclippingswhileyou are operatingthe mower. 1. AttachgrasscatcherfollowinginstructionsintheAssembly section.Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect inbagas you runmower.Operatemowertill grassbagis full. 2. Stopmotorcompletelyby releasingthe blade/motorcontrol handle.Makesurethattheunithascometoa completestop. 3. Liftdischargedoorandpullgrassbagupandawayfromthe mowerto removethebag.Disposeofthegrassclippingsand reinstallthe bagwhencomplete. 14 MAINTENANCE General Recommendations o Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperformingany maintenance. o Thewarrantyon thislawnmowerdoesnotcoveritemsthathave beensubjectedtooperatorabuseor negligence.Toreceivefull valuefromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe lawnmoweras instructedhere. • Alladjustmentsshouldbecheckedatleastonceeachseason. • Periodicallycheckall fastenersand makesurethesearetight. Alwaysstopthe motoranddisconnectfromthe powersourcebefore cleaning,lubricatingor performinganyrepairsor maintenanceonthe lawnmower. Lubrication Lubricatethewheelsatleastoncea seasonwithlightoil (ormotor oil).If wheelsareremovedforanyreason,lubricatesurfaceofthe pivotarm andinnersurfaceof the wheelwithlightoil. See Figure12.
