• If the battery is completely empty, it may take some time (3-5 minutes) before the green pilot light comes on. To protect the environment, this rechargeable Philishave appliance is equipped with a nickel-hydride battery. This contains less than 0.01% cadmium. Yet we advise you to ensure that the battery is separated from the normal household refuse and that it is disposed of at an officially assigned place when discarding your appliance in due course. Please refer to section “Environment". 4 "Double Action" shaving system (fig. 1-4, page 3) You now own an excellent Philishave shaver featuring the unique "Double Action" shaving system: Each cutter blade has a "lifter blade".... Shaving tips for a close, quick and comfortable shave • The best results are obtained if the skin is dry. So preferably shave before washing or some time afterwards. • If required, apply a preshave lotion. This can be particularly helpful if the climate is warm and humid. • The Philishave system gives you a quick, close and comfortable shave. Just move the shaving unit quickly over the skin. • For the best results stretch the skin to bring the hairs into an upright position. Then move the shaving unit against the direction of the growth of the hairs. • The trimmer has been especially designed for grooming sideburns, moustache and beard. The trimmer is not required for long hairs in the neck area; these hairs can easily be shaved off with the shaving unit. Charging • (Type HS 860 only:) Keep the cassette open if you charge the appliance in it. -Slide the on/off switch (C) downwards. ("OFF" visible.) -Insert the small plug firmly into the connector (E) up to the indication mark. -Then connect to the wall socket. When charging begins, the green pilot light (B) will come on. After one hour the shaver will be fully charged. The green pilot light will then start blinking. The pilot light will go out when you remove the mains plug 6 from the wall socket. The number of shaves per charge is dependent upon your beard type and shaving time. Prolonged mains connection will not harm the shaver. However, it is not advisable to charge the shaver permanently as this will shorten the life of the rechargeable battery. Shaving directly from the mains -Slide the on/off switch (C) downwards. ("OFF" visible.) -Connect the appliance to a wall socket. -Then switch the appliance on. Rechargeable battery lifetime The lifetime of the rechargeable battery is favourably influenced by: • charging at temperatures between 5° and 35° C (41° and 95° F); • cordless usage until the rechargeable battery noticeably needs recharging; • regular shaving head cleaning. Maintenance and cleaning (fig. 6-21, pages 48 and 49) • Always switch off the shaver before carrying out maintenance or cleaning. • The rotating cutter blades of the Philishave system retain the shaved stubble neatly inside the shaving unit. In general, the shaving unit needs cleaning only once a week. Every week Fig. 6: Clean the guard slots using the short bristled end of the brush. Fig. 7: Pull the shaving unit from the shaver. Figs. 8 Clean the inside using the long bristled end of the & 9: brush. 7 Every three months • If your skin is of an oily type or if you have been using a pre-shave lotion, the following procedure should be carried out once a month.
