2 Do not leave the appliance in a position where it can become damaged by direct sunlight or other heat source. - Before first use or - if the shaver has not been used for a month or longer it should be charged for a period of at least 8 hours (irrespective of the reading on the display). These contain less than 0.01% cadmium. Yet we advise you to ensure that the batteries are separated from the normal household refuse and that they are disposed of at an officially assigned place when discarding your appliance in due course. Please refer to section “Protecting the environment”. Switching on/off. 3 The slider switch has a locking knob which prevents the shaver from being switched on accidentally. Keeping the small knob on the switch pressed-in slide the switch upwards/downwards. Charging • Ensure that the shaver is switched off. • It is advisable to charge the shaver at temperatures between 5° and 35° C (41° and 95° F). This guarantees maximum life from the rechargeable batteries. • If you keep the shaver in the case when charging ensure that the lid is left open to prevent overheating. • Before first use (or if the shaver has not been used for long time) it should be charged for a period of at least 8 hours. 5 • Recharging: 60 minutes. The shaver can also be charged from a 12 - 24 Volts (DC) supply using cord connector type HP 1957. (Available from Philips retailers or Authorised Service Dealers.) Charging from a 12 -24 Volts (DC) supply requires approx. 24 hours. • Regular cleaning of the shaver means that less battery energy is consumed, so that more shaving time becomes available. • The shaver will not be damaged by leaving it connected to the mains supply after it is fully charged. However, it is not advisable to charge the shaver permanently as this would shorten the life of the rechargeable batteries. 920 100 80 60 40 20 4 4 Insert the small plug into the shaver. Ensure that the plug is pushed fully home. (Note the indication mark.) Mains voltages: 100 - 240 Volts. (The shaver adjusts automatically.) 5 One of the blocks of the charge meter will start flashing. If the batteries are almost empty, the first block will be red. When it turns green, there is enough energy in the rechargeable batteries for one cordless shave (3 minutes). 6 Each time when 20% of the full charge has been accomplished the next block of the energy meter will start to flash. 920 100 80 60 40 20 920 100 80 60 40 20 6 7 After 60 minutes, block “100” comes on flashing. This block stops flashing as soon as the shaver is fully charged. Cordless shaving 920 100 80 60 40 20 When switching on and off, the blocks of the energy meter become visible for approx. 8 seconds. You can then check how much charge is still available in the rechargeable batteries, until the reserve capacity will be reached. 8 After shaving cordless with the fully charged shaver for some time, the fifth block will no longer be visible. Thereafter, the other blocks will disappear successively. 9 When the last block turns red, the reserve energy has been reached. (You will be able to complete the shave.) As the shaver is switched off you will hear a sound signal for 4 seconds and the red block will start flashing. When the batteries are completely empty and the shaver stops, you can give the shaver a quick charge (sufficient for one cordless shave): -Charge the shaver until the last block turns from red into green. Shaving directly from the mains supply (wall socket) -If you wish you can connect the shaver to a wall socket using the mains cord and shave directly from the mains supply. 8 Shaving 10 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 11 12 10 Switch on. 11 The comfort control can be adjusted to suit skin sensitivity. Start with the control set to position 1 (for sensitive skin) and then try other positions to find the one that suits you best. 12 Move the shaving unit quickly over the skin and especially against the direction of the hair growth, stretching the skin with your free hand to bring the hairs into an upright position. • Best results are obtained if the skin is dry. Preferably shave before or some time after washing. • If required apply a pre-shave lotion.
