8) Connect the Peripherals
l Connect the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and UPS to the Server.
l If you don’t use a UPS with the Server, you may experience an arching
effect when you plug in the power cord to an AC power source. This is
normal due to the high inrush current of the power supply.
For details on connecting the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and UPS, refer to
Chapter 7, "Connecting the Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, and UPS” in the HP
Server tc2100 Installation Guide.

9) Power up the HP Server
l Verify the HP Server tc2100 passes POST successfully.
If the operating system was not loaded prior to your receipt of the Server, you
will see an error message “No operating system found” when the Server
completes the boot process.
l Check the HP Server’s BIOS version against the latest BIOS version listed on
HP’s web site for this Server at: http:\\ www.hp.com
l If you don’t have the latest BIOS version, update the BIOS with the Phlash
utility on the Startup CD-ROM before installing the NOS and its drivers.
10) Run the HP Startup CD-ROM
l Run the HP Startup CD-ROM (NOS drivers/DiagTools/BIOS flash utility) on
(to create the diskettes)
any Windows PC with a HTML browser to create the diskettes for the various

utilities on the Startup CD-ROM. These utilities are used to flash the BIOS and
install the NOS drivers.
l If the Windows PC does not auto-start opening the Startup menu, start it by
opening the Startup.htm file, found at the root level of the Startup CD.
Refer to the Welcome menu on the Startup CD-ROM, or the
HP Server tc2100 NOS Installation Guide for instructions
11) Run DiagTools (Optional)
l To verify the HP Server’s hardware integrity and ensure the Server is fully

functional, you may boot the Startup CD-ROM in the Server to run HP
DiagTools, and follow the screen instructions to run the Basic Test.
l View and then save the Support Ticket, as this will contain an inventory of your
hardware.
Refer to Chapter 8, "Configuring the HP Server”, in the HP Server tc2100
Installation Guide.

12) If necessary, Flash the BIOS
l If you need to flash the BIOS, do so now before installing the NOS on the HP
Server. To get the latest BIOS for the HP Server tc2100, download the most
current BIOS from the HP web site at: http:\\www.hp.com.
The Startup CD-ROM has a Phlash utility you can use to upgrade the BIOS, or
backup your BIOS configuration, in case the CMOS becomes corrupted later on.
Refer to the Welcome menu on the Startup CD-ROM or the HP Server tc2100
NOS Installation Guide for more information.
13) Install the desired NOS
l Locate and read the desired NOS installation topic in the HP Server tc2100 NOS
Installation Guide before installing the desired NOS.
l The NOS Installation Guide provides the instructions for installing all supported
NOSs.
14) Install the respective NOS
l Install NOS drivers from the diskettes you created, or use the link on the Startup
drivers
CD to install drivers for Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server.
Refer to the Welcome menu on the Startup CD-ROM or the HP Server tc2100
NOS Installation Guide
for more information.
