Overtightening the spark plugs can damage the threads in the cylinder head. Measure the spark plug electrode gap with a wire-type feeler gauge. Correct the gap, if necessary, by carefully bending the side electrode. The gap should be: Install the spark plugs carefully, by hand, to avoid cross-threading. Inspection 1. Position the outboard motor verti- cally, and remove the engine cover. 2. Remove the oil level dipstick and wipe with a clean rag. 3. Reinsert the dipstick all the way in, then pull it out and read the level. If the oil registers near or below the lower limit mark, remove the oil tiller cap and fill to the upper limit mark with .the recommended oil. Do not overjill. Excessive oil can damage the engine.
