Never place a recorded cassette near a magnetic source such as a magnet or a TV set as this may affect tape performance. ■ Cassette tapes exceeding 90 minutes These tapes are handy for their long playback and recording time but be careful about repeatedly stopping and starting, rewinding and fast forwarding these tapes in short intervals as they are thin, tend to stretch and may become entangled in the machine. ■ ‘Dolby NR switch (Only for RQ-V200) This unit includes Dolby noise reduction which reduces the noise. ON: To playback the tape recorded with Dolby B-type noise reduction OFF: For other tapes 'Dolby noise reduction manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. “DOLBY” and the doubie-D symbol □□ are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. SPECIAL FEATURES ■ XBS switch XBS boosts the low frequency range, so that you can fully enjoy the dynamic low sounds. ■ Live button (Only for RQ-V200) This button is used to add gloss to the vocals and make you feel as if you were hearing a live stage performance. When pressing this button, live indicator will appear. To cancel the live effect, press this button again. Live indicator will disappear. This function may not be effective according to the source. RADIO 1. Release the hold state. 2. Connect the Included stereo earphones to the headphones Jack. 3. Set the function selector to “RADIO”. The OPR/BATT indicator will illuminate and the frequency display will appear. 4. Press the band select button to select the desired radio band (FM or AM). 5. Press the tuning buttons (“+M or *'—”) to tune in your favorite station. The frequency display will change. (AM step by 9 kHz, FM step by 0.05 MHz.) Auto tuning Hold either of the tuning buttons for more than 0.5 seconds, and then release it. Auto tuning will operate and stop automatically on next strong station. +...To switch to a higher frequency -.. .To switch to a lower frequency When you listen to the FM broadcast, set the FM mode selector to the proper position. 6. Adjust the volume using the volume control. To turn off the radio, set the function selector to “TAPE/roFTT. ■ FM mode selector To receive FM stereo broadcasts, set the FM mode selector to “STEREO". If reception is poor (excessive noise), set to “MONO”. This will reduce the noise and provide clear reception, however, the broadcast will not be heard in stereo. •When receiving the FM stereo broadcasts, the stereo indicator will appear. ■ Antennas FM: The earphones cord serves as the FM antenna, so be sure to have it extended, not coiled. AM: The built-in ferrite core AM antenna is directional. It may be necessary to turn the unit to obtain optimum reception. Be sure to have the set in a horizontal position when you listen to AM broadcasts. If you use the radio in an upright position, it may not function adequately. ■ Last station recall This memory functions when the radio is turned off. The frequency last tuned into is automatically received when the radio is turned back on again. ■ How to store the broadcasting stations Since this unit features a dual mode function (MODE1, MODE2), the setting for each mode can be stored in and erased from the memory separately. This feature proves to be convenient when traveling. To store radio stations into buttons 1,2 and 3 (for direct tuning) 3-FM and 3-AM stations can be stored in each mode. 1. Press the band/mode select button for about 3 seconds to select the mode (MODE1, MODE2). 2. Tune in the station to be stored. 3. Press the memory button. The memory indicator will flash on and off for 10 seconds. 4. During flashing, press one of the 1, 2 or 3 buttons. (Three beeps will be emitted.) The direct tuning indicator and memory channel number will appear, and the memory indicator will light. To store radio stations Into memory channels from 1 to 4 4-FM and 4-AM stations can be stored in each mode. 1. Press the band/mode select button for 2 seconds to select the mode (MODE1, MODE2). 2. Tune in the station to be stored. 3. Press the memory button. The memory indicator will flash on and off for 10 seconds. 4. During flashing, press the memory select button to select the memory channel number (1-4). The memory channel number will appear and each time the memory select button is pressed, the memory channel number will change from 1 to 4 in turn. 5. Press the memory button. (Three beeps will be emitted.) The memory indicator will light. ■ How to tune in the stored stations 1. Set the function selector to “RADIO”. 2. Release the hold state. 3. Select the mode (MODE1, MODE2). 4. Select the desired radio band using the band/mode select button. (Direct tuning) 5. Press one of the 1,2 or 3 buttons to receive your desired station. 6.
