If you are not familiar with the RDS system, check with your local radio stations for details on RDS services in your area. Receiving RDS broadcasts /Simply select a station from the FM band. When you tune in a station that provides RDS services, the station name appears in the display. To check the RDS information Each time you press DISPLAY/DEMO, the display changes as follows: nStation name* Locating a station by program type (PTY) You can locate the station you want by selecting a program type. The unit tunes in that type of program currently being broadcast from the RDS stations stored in the tuner’s preset memory. 1 3,5 2,4 1 Press PTY. 2 Press TUNING +/– to select the program type you want. See the “List of program types (PTY)” section below. 3 Press ENTER/NEXT. The unit starts searching for the preset RDS stations (“SEARCH” and the selected program type appear alternately in the display). n Frequency When the tuner receives a program, the preset station number flashes. n Program type* 4 Press TUNING +/– until the desired n preset station number flashes in the Clock display display. n Effect (P FILE) name or “EFFECT ON 5 Press ENTER/NEXT while the (OFF)” preset station number is flashing. * If the RDS broadcast is not received, the station name and the program type may not appear in the display. To stop the search while it is in progress Press PTY. List of program types (PTY) AFFAIRS Topical programs that expand on current news topics. ALARM Emergency broadcasts. CULTURE Programs about national or regional culture. DRAMA Radio plays and serials. EDUCATE (Education) Educational programs, such as “how-to” programs and advice. INFO (Information) Programs about consumer affairs, medical advice, and weather. LIGHT MUSIC Classical music, such as instrumentals, vocal, and choral works. M.O.R. MUSIC Easy listening (middle of the road) music. NEWS News programs. OTHER MUSIC Music, such as jazz, rhythm and blues, and reggae. POP MUSIC Popular music programs. ROCK MUSIC Rock music programs. SCIENCE Programs about the natural sciences CLASSICS Performances of major orchestras, chamber music, opera, etc. SPORT Sports programs. VARIED Programs containing celebrity interviews, panel games, and comedy. NONE Any programming not defined above. Note “NO PTY” appears when the program type you selected is not currently being broadcasted. Singing along: Karaoke You can sing along with any stereo CD or tape by turning down the singer’s voice. You need to connect an optional microphone. 1,5 4 23 1 Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN to turn down the microphone level. 2 Connect an optional microphone to the MIC (MIC 1*) jack. When you use two microphones at the same time, connect the other one to the MIC 2* jack. (* LBT-XB33K/XB44K/XB66K only) 3 Press KARAOKE PON/MPX repeatedly to obtain the desired karaoke effect. Each time you press this button, the display changes as follows: To Select Reduce the singer's KARAOKE PON voice on a CD or tape Reduce the left channel MPX R on a multiplex CD or tape Reduce the right MPX L channel on a multiplex CD or tape 4 Start playing the music and adjust the volume. 5 Turn MIC LEVEL to adjust the microphone volume. When you are done Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN and disconnect the microphone from MIC, then press KARAOKE PON/MPX repeatedly until “h” disappears from the display. nNKARAOKE PON nMPX R nMPX L EFFECT OFF (ON) “h” appears in the display when the karaoke mode is activated. Adjusting the microphone echo (LBT-XB33K/XB44K/XB66K only) ECHO LEVEL /Turn ECHO LEVEL to adjust the echo effect. To cancel the echoing Turn ECHO LEVEL to MIN. To stop recording Press pon deck B. continued Singing along: Karaoke (continued) Tips • If acoustic feedback (howling) occurs, move the microphone away from the speakers or change the direction of the microphone. • If you want to record your voice through the microphone only, you can do so by selecting the CD source and not playing a CD. Notes • If you press EFFECT or select a sound effect. The karaoke mode is canceled. • The instrumental sound may be reduced as well as the singer’s voice when the source sound was recorded monaurally. • The singer’s voice may not be reduced when: — only a few instruments are playing — a duet is being sung — the source has strong echoes or chorus — the singer’s voice deviates from the center. — the voice on the source is singing high soprano or tenor notes.
