Customizing Your VAIO Computer > Using the VAIO Power Management n129 N Using the VAIO Power Management Power management helps you set up power plans for running on AC or battery power to suit your requirements for power consumption. The VAIO Power Management function is added to the Windows Power Options. With this software application, you can enhance the Windows power management functions to ensure better operation of your computer and longer battery life. Selecting a Power Plan When you start the computer, a power status icon appears on the taskbar. This icon indicates what kind of power source you are currently using. Click this icon to display the window that shows your power status. To select a power plan 1 Right-click the power status icon on the taskbar and select Power Options. 2 Select your desired power plan. To change the power plan settings 1 Click Change plan settings on the right of your desired power plan in the Power Options window. Change the Sleep mode and display settings as needed. 2 If you need to change the advanced settings, click Change advanced power settings and go to step 3. Otherwise, click Save changes. 3 Click the VAIO Power Management tab. Change the settings for each item. 4 Click OK. See the specifications to find out about configuration of your computer. ! To download a language pack, your computer must be connected to the Internet. To install a language pack 1 Click Start, All Programs, and Windows Update. 2 Click xx (number) optional updates are available. 3 Select the desired language pack from the list. 4 Click OK to start the download and installation of the selected language pack. To change the display language 1 Click Start, Control Panel, and Clock, Language, and Region. 2 Click Region and Language. 3 Select the Keyboards and Languages tab. 4 Choose a display language from the drop-down list. 5 Click OK. USB Ports . Memory Card Slot ("Memory Stick Duo" slot and SD memory card slot) . Optical Disc Drive (built-in optical disc drive) . Wireless Devices (wireless LAN, WiMAX, wireless WAN, BLUETOOTH, and GPS functions) . LAN Device (LAN port) . The built-in devices you can disable depends on the model you purchased. Customizing Your VAIO Computer > Protecting Data from Unauthorized Use n132 N To disable built-in devices 1 Turn on the computer and press the F2 key repeatedly until the VAIO logo disappears. The BIOS setup screen appears. If the screen does not appear, restart the computer and try again. 2 Press the < or , key to select Advanced. 3 Press the M or m key to select your desired built-in device, and press the Enter key. 4 Press the M or m key to select Disabled and press the Enter key. . To enable the device, select Enabled instead of Disabled. 5 If you want to disable more built-in devices, repeat steps 4 and 5 for each device. 6 Press the < or , key to select Exit, select Exit Setup, and then press the Enter key.
