If a howling sound occurs, keep the microphone away from the loudspeakers or reduce the volume. Disconnect the microphone when not in use. Loudspeaker terminals SPEAKERS See fig. 3 for connecting the supplied loudspeakers (or others having an impedance of 4 Ohms). Connect the coloured (or marked) wire to the red terminal. To attach the loudspeakers, see fig. 4. Move knob © to take off the loudspeakers, see fig. 5. Note The supplied loudspeakers are different for A29435. English English RADIO COMPACT DISC RADIO RADIO RECEPTION • Switch on the set using the POWER button. POWER -Z- lights up. • Setthe MODE selectorto RADIO. • Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME, BASS/TREBLE and DYNAMIC BASS BOOST. • Select the wave band using the BAND selector. (LW not on all versions). - For FM, pull out the telescopic aerial. To improve FM-reception, incline and turn the aerial. Reduce its length if the FM-signal is too strong (very close to a transmitter). - For AM/MW and LW (Medium and Long Wave), the set is provided with a built-in aerial, so there is no need to use the telescopic aerial. The aerial can be directed by turning the whole set. • Tune to a radio station using the TUNING knob. • When FM STEREO # lights up, you are receiving a FM-stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise, due to a weak FM-stereo signal, can be suppressed by setting the BAND selector to FM (mono). FM STEREO $ will then go out and you will hear (and record) the FM programme in mono. • Always switch off the set after use with the POWER button. POWER will then go out. COMPACT DISC PLAYING A DISC • Switch on the set using the POWER button. POWER lights up. • Set the MODE selector to CD. • Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the CD cover. • Insert the CD, printed side facing up (fig. 6). • Close the cover. The CD-player starts and scans the contents list of the CD. After that, the total playing time and the number of tracks appear on the display and the CD player stops. • Playback will start by pressing PLAY >. As soon as playback starts, the display shows the track number and the elapsed playing time of that title. • Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME, BASS/TREBLE and DYNAMIC BASS BOOST. • For brief interruptions, press PAUSE. The word PAUSE then appears. To continue playback, press PAUSE again. • To stop playback, press STOP □. The CD player also goes to position STOP: - by pressing OPEN/CLOSE; - when the end of the CD is reached; - if you move the MODE selector; - if the batteries run down or if the power supply is interrupted in another way. • To take out the CD, open the CD cover by pressing OPEN/CLOSE. Open the CD cover only if the CD-player is in position STOP. • Always switch off the set after use with the POWER button. POWER -if will then go out. Remarks - If the battery voltage is not sufficient any more for playing a CD, the CD-player will not start. - lf<->o o' ISC appears after inserting a CD, the player cannot read the CD. Possible causes are: - you inserted the CD the wrong way: the label should face up (fig. 6); 10 COMPACT DISC - the CD is badly scratched or dirty, see ‘Maintenance’; - the lens® (fig. 7) is steamed up because of a sudden transition from a cold into a warm environment; do not clean the lens, but let the set acclimatize for a while. INTROSCAN The INTROSCAN function can be switched on from the STOP and PLAY mode. • Press INTROSCAN. The word SCAN then appears. Only the first few seconds of each track are played. • The moment you press PLAY >, the INTROSCAN function is defeated (the word SCAN disappears) and the CD is played in the normal way from this title. • If you press K1 or N, the INTROSCAN function remains operative and the beginning of the next W or previous W track is played. • If INTROSCAN is not defeated by pressing PLAY > or STOP □, the CD player returns to STOP as soon as the end of the CD is reached. MODE (SHUFFLE and REPEAT) By pressing the MODE button several times, all play modes will successively appear on the display: 1x SHUFFLE to play the CD in a random order; 2x SHUFFLE REPEAT to repeat the CD continuously in a random order; 3x REPEAT ALL to repeat the CD continuously; 4x REPEAT 1 to repeat the current title continuously; 5x NORMAL (no display indication) to cancel the SHUFFLE and REPEAT modes. In the MEMORY REPEAT ALL mode (if the word MEMORY is also visible on the display) only the titles stored in the memory will be played. The mode MEMORY SHUFFLE is not possible. The word MEMORY will disappear when the next title is reached. To cancel the REPEAT and SHUFFLE modes, choose NORMAL mode (no display indication). MPREVIOUS/NEXTW-« SEARCH» 1. W PREVIOUS/NEXTM Press briefly (less than 1 second) a. During PLAY and INTROSCAN: W - go to the next track (title) You can jump to the next title by pressing» once.
