Choose ON to turn this feature on. Choose OFF to turn this feature off. • CALLER ID—You can see the number of the person calling you (This option may not work when connected to a PABX). Cleaning drum If print output quality decreases due to the presence of black streaks or ghost images appearing on printouts, drum cleaning should be performed as an attempt to rectify the problem. 1. Press Menu, then Maintenance on the one-touch keypad. ‘CLEAN DURM ?’ appears in the display. 2. Press Start/Enter. The LCD display shows drum cleaning is under way. CLEANING DRUM PLEASE WAIT.. The machine outputs a single sheet of paper containing any excess toner removed from the drum. Adjust shading The Adjust shading feature allows you to recalibrate the baseline value the document scanner will interpret as white when scanning documents. This procedure should be performed after cleaning the document scanner, particularly if the white rubber roller remains stained after cleaning. 1. Press Menu, then Maintenance on the one-touch keypad. ‘CLEAN DRUM ?’ appears in the LCD display. 2. Press „ „„ or † button. `ADJUST SHADING ?’ appears in the display. 3. Press Start/Enter. The LCD display prompts you to confirm your choice by pressing the appropriate number key. 4. Press 1. The LCD display prompts you to load a sheet of white paper into the automatic document feeder. 5. Load a single sheet of white paper into the automatic document feeder. The machine immediately begins feeding the sheet of paper through the automatic document feeder. ‘SHADING...’ appears on the LCD display. 6. The machine returns to standby mode. 2 Operation Other functions 2.47 6800-06Ch 15/11/99 14:41 Page 12 Notify toner low If you have set this notify toner low menu option to ON, when the toner cartridge needs to be replaced, your machine automatically sends a fax to your service company or the dealer to notify them that your machine requires a new toner cartridge. This feature will be activated only when the phone number of the service company or the dealer is stored in your machine’s memory by technician. Ask your dealer for more information. 1. Press Menu, and Maintenance on the one-touch keypad. 2. Press „ „„ or † until you find ‘NOTIFY TONER LOW’, then press Start/Enter. 3. Press 1 or 2 to turn this feature ON or OFF, then press Start/Enter. 4. Do not pull the document out of the slot, as this could harm your machine. 1. Open the control panel by hand. 2. Flip up the control panel latch in front of the left side arm to hold the control Panel open. 3. Carefully remove the jammed document. Then pull down the stopper and close the control panel firmly until it clicks into place. 3.2 Troubleshooting 6800-07Ch 15/11/99 14:43 Page 3 Paper jams while the machine is printing By carefully selecting paper type and loading paper properly, you should be able to avoid most paper jams. If a paper jam occurs, an error message appears in the display. Follow the steps below to clear the jam. To avoid tearing the paper, pull the jammed paper out gently and slowly. If jammed in the paper feed area (JAM 0) 1. Remove the recording paper cassette as shown below. 2. Carefully pull out the jammed paper. 3. Replace the recording paper cassette. 3 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting 3.3 6800-07Ch 15/11/99 14:44 Page 4 If jammed inside the machine (JAM 1) 1. Pull the cover release button toward you and open the cover. 2. Remove the toner cartridge. 3. Gently pull the paper toward you. 4. Check that there is no other paper in the machine. 5. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the cover. 3.4 Troubleshooting 6800-07Ch 15/11/99 14:44 Page 5 If jammed in the printer output area (JAM 2) 1. If the paper jams as it exits to the printer exit tray and a long portion of the paper is visible, pull the paper straight out. Stop pulling on the paper if you feel resistance, and the paper does not move immediately when you pull. Continue with the next step. Tips for avoiding paper jams By carefully selecting print materials and loading them properly, you should be able to avoid most paper jams. If jams do occur, follow the steps outlined in “Clearing Jams” starting on page 3.2.
