Estimated cartridge life Estimated cartridge life (the life of the toner cartridge yield) depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. The actual print-out number may vary depending on the print density of the pages you print on, operating environment, printing interval, media type, and/or media size. For example, if you print a lot of graphics, the consumption of the toner is high and you may need to change the cartridge more often. Caution • Samsung does not recommend using non-genuine Samsung toner cartridge such as refilled or remanufactured. Samsung cannot guarantee non-genuine Samsung toner cartridge's quality. Service or repair required as a result of using non- genuine Samsung toner cartridges will not be covered under the machine warranty. Redistributing toner cartridge Small amount of toner is left in the cartridge. The estimated cartridge life of toner is close.: • White streaks and light printing occur. • The Smart Panel program window appears on the computer. • The Error LED blinks red. Prepare a new cartridge for replacement. You may temporarily increase the printing quality by redistributing the toner. 1 Open the front cover. 2 Pull the toner cartridge out. 8.2 Caution • Avoid reaching too far into the printer. The fuser area may be hot. • To prevent damage to the toner cartridge, do not expose it to light for more than a few minutes. Cover it with a piece of paper, if necessary. • Do not touch the green surface underside of the toner cartridge. Use the handle on the cartridge to avoid touching this area. Thoroughly shake the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Caution • If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into fabric. Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the cartridge into the opening in the printer. Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely. Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely closed. Note • At this stage, if you need to replace the toner cartridge, see page 8.4. Replacing the toner cartridge A toner cartridge has reached its estimated cartridge life.: • The printer stops printing. • The Smart Panel program window appears on the computer. • The Error LED blinks red. Note • Estimated cartridge life means the expected or estimated toner cartridge life, which indicates the average capacity of printouts and is designed pursuant to ISO/IEC 19752. (See Specification on page 11.1.) The number of pages may be affected by operating environment, printing interval, media type, and media size. Some amount of toner may remain in the cartridge even when the error LED blinks red, and the printer stops printing. At this stage, the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. For toner cartridge ordering information, see page 7.1. 1 Open the front cover. 2 Pull the old toner cartridge out. 3 Remove the new toner cartridge from its bag. Caution • Do not use sharp objects, such as a knife or scissors, to open the toner cartridge package.
