BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME Read all Important Safeguards and Operating Instructions before using this kettle. Discard the first filling of boiling water to remove any dust and residues from the manufacturing process. TO BOIL WATER 1. Remove kettle from base. 2, Open the lid until it stands vertically. DO NOT BEND LID FURTHER BACK! 3. Fill with the desired amount of fresh cold water. The kettle has minimum and maximum markings. Never underfill or overfill the kettle. CAUTION / DANGEROUS: Never fill above the MAX line. If you fill above the max line, boiling water will push out of the pouring spout. This can cause severe injuries and burns. 4. Close lid. 5. Place kettle on Power Base. 6. Plug cord into wall outlet. 7. Gently push the On switch (B) upwards. The blue Indicator Light will turn on and the kettle begins to heat the water. 8. When the water comes to a boil the kettle will turn off automatically, the on-switch will jump down and the light will shut off. 9. Lift kettle from base and pour water out slowly. IMPORTANT Open lid (A) at a 90. angle, when pouring all of the water at once into another container. This way hot steam will be diverted away from the hand holding the handle (D). 10. Replace kettle. 11. If you want to bring the remaining water to a boil again, repeat step 7. 4. HELPFUL HINTS: • Never try to boil water with the lid open. • Do not leave water standing in the kettle. Discard unused water. • If the kettle is "ON" without water, the kettle will automatically turn off (the blue indicator light will turn off, but the switch will NOT jump back). Slide the switch (B) downward to the complete OFF position. • If you remove the kettle during heating – before Auto Shut-Off – the blue indicator light will turn off but the switch will stay in the ON position. If you place the kettle back on the power base, the light will turn on again, indicating that heating continues. You can always slide the switch downward to the complete OFF position. CLEANING • Always unplug cord of power base before cleaning. • Make sure kettle is cold. • Clean the exterior surface with a clean, damp, soft cloth. • Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring agents. • Rinse out kettle and wipe dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Attention: • Over time the stainless steel cover of the heating element inside the bottom of the kettle may change color slightly. This is caused by the intense heat of the heating element. • If your water has a high iron content brownish stains may appear on the stainless steel element (this is also known as "boiler scale"). These stains can be wiped away with a cloth and a mild abrasive. Rinse kettle thoroughly with fresh water. DECALCIFICATION Hard water can leave calcium spots inside the kettle. Use a commercial descaling agent and follow the instructions that come with the agent. NOTE: Make sure kettle is cold. Use of Vinegar You can also use white vinegar to descale the inside. Fill the kettle with 2 cups of water (16 oz) and add 6 tablespoons of white vinegar. Bring to a boil. Discard the solution and repeat if necessary. Rinse the kettle once or twice with fresh cold water. Use of DURGOL Capresso and many European companies recommend "DURGOL" liquid decalcifying agent. It removes calcium deposits up to 20 times faster than vinegar. Diluted DURGOL can also be used for coffee makers, steam irons (cold only!) and for many other needs in your household. • Pour a cap-full of DURGOL over the round stainless steel cover. It will dissolve any stains. Rinse thoroughly with fresh cold water. Repeat once or twice if necessary. Do not heat the kettle! See your local Capresso dealer or visit our website: to order DURGOL. 5. LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY This warranty covers your CAPRESSO machine, model #259 glass water kettle.
