Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided. If it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Repair or replace a damaged or worn cord immediately. This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding plug similar to the plug illustrated in fig- ure 1. Only connect the product to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. Do not use an adapter with this product. APPLIANCE LEAKAGE CURRENT INTERRUPTER DEVICE (alci) See Figure 1, page 8. This unit is equipped with an Appliance Leakage Current Interrupter (ALCI), which guards against the hazards of ground fault currents. ALCI plugs do not protect against short circuits, overloads, or shocks. NOTE: To ensure readiness for use, press the reset button each time you connect the product to the power supply. The ALCI plug can be tested with the TEST and RESET buttons. To test: . Depress the TEST button. This should cause the Reset button to pop out. . To restore power, depress the RESET button. The safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the tool and in this operator’s manual as well as a knowledge of the project you are attempting. Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. INTERNAL BRISTLES - Soft, rotating bristles gently remove oil, acrylic, varnish, and water-based paints from paint brushes. ON/OFF SWITCH - This product has an easy access power switch located on the top of the product. OPERATION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury. WARNING: Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Failure to do so could result in objects being thrown into your eyes, resulting in possible serious injury. WARNING: Do not use any attachments or accessories not recommended by the manufacturer of this tool. The use of attachments or accessories not recommended can result in serious personal injury. APPLICATIONS You may use this tool for the purposes listed below: . Cleaning paint brushes TURNING THE PAINT BRUSH CLEANER on and off See Figure 3, page 8. . Plug in brush cleaner. . Push and release the on/off switch to start the paint brush cleaner. . Push and release the on/off switch again to turn the cleaner off. OPERATING THE PAINT BRUSH CLEANER See Figure 4, page 8. . Fill the bucket with warm water (for water based paints) or Klean Strip® White Formula Paint Thinner (for oil-based paints or varnish). . Set the cleaning assembly on the bucket. Secure in place using the latches. . Slip the paint brush into the opening at the top of the cleaning assembly. . Turn on cleaner. . After one or two minutes, turn off the cleaner and remove the paint brush. NOTE: If the brush is still dirty, empty the bucket and repeat the above steps until the brush is clean. MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing, use only identical Ryobi replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. WARNING: Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1 during product operation. If operation is dusty, also wear a dust mask. GENERAL MAINTENANCE Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc. WARNING: Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum- based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken or destroy plastic which may result in serious personal injury. LUBRICATION All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal operating conditions. Cleaning the BUCKET . Unplug the brush cleaner. . Remove the cleaning assembly from the bucket by lifting up and releasing the latches on each end of the unit. . Dispose of dirty water (or Klean Strip® White Formula Paint Thinner) in accordance with federal, state, and local ordinances. . Fill the bucket about one-third full with clean water. A small amount of mild household detergent may be added. NOTE: Never use flammable chemicals or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the bucke...
