Using Battery Power To power the Listener from an internal battery, you need one 9-volt battery (not supplied). For the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries. Caution: Always use a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type. 4 43- 231c. fm Page 5 Friday, May 7, 1999 1: 30 PM ON OFF 1. Insert a coin into the slot between the front and back halves of the case, and twist it slightly to separate the halves, then lift off the front case. 2. Snap the battery connector over the battery’s terminals. 3. Place the battery on top of the foam cushion inside the front case, then place the back case over the front case and snap it closed. When the Listener’s volume drops or the sound distorts, replace the 9-volt battery. 5 43- 231c. fm Page 6 Friday, May 7, 1999 1: 30 PM Caution: If you do not plan to use the Listener for a week or more, or if you plan to use only an AC adapter, remove the battery. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. Warning: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury them. Using AC Power You can power your Listener from standard AC power using a 9-volt AC adapter (not supplied) and a Size E Adaptaplug. 6 43- 231c. fm Page 7 Friday, May 7, 1999 1: 30 PM Cautions: ! You must use an AC adapter that supplies at least 9 volts DC power and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to positive, and its barrel plug must correctly fit the Listener’s 9V DC jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the Listener or the adapter. • Always plug the adapter into the Listener before you plug it into the AC outlet. Always unplug the adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the Listener. Insert the adapter’s barrel plug into the Listener’s 9V DC jack, then plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. + - 9V DC TEL PICK- UP 7 43- 231c. fm Page 8 Friday, May 7, 1999 1: 30 PM Note: Connecting the AC adapter automatically disconnects the internal battery. MOUNTING You can place the Listener on a flat surface, such as a shelf or desk top, or mount it directly on the wall. To mount the Listener on the wall, you need two flat-head screws (not supplied) with heads that fit into the keyhole slots on the back of the Listener. 1/4" (6 mm) Drill two holes 215/ 16 inches (75 mm) apart. Then thread a screw into each hole, letting the heads ex 2 15/16"(75 mm) tend about 1/ 4 inch (6 mm) from the wall. 8 43- 231c. fm Page 9 Friday, May 7, 1999 1: 30 PM Align the keyhole slots with the mounting screws and slide the Listener downward to secure it.
