Attractive Case — with a handy mirror and photo holder. Note: You need one 12-volt battery (not supplied) to power your personal alarm. 3 49-418.fm Page 4 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM PREPARATION Your personal alarm requires one 12-volt battery (not supplied) for power. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend an alkaline battery, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-144. Caution: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type. The personal alarm’s battery compartment is concealed beneath the photo and its transparent protective cover. Open the alarm’s case and slide off the protective cover and the paper picture behind it. 4 49-418.fm Page 5 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM Then follow these steps to install the battery. 1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery compartment cover, then remove the cover. 5 49-418.fm Page 6 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM 2. Replace the cover, then reinsert and tighten the screw. You can put a photo or anything else of that size in the holder. Then place the protective cover over it. 7 49-418.fm Page 8 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM We recommend you test the alarm periodically (see “Operation” on Page 9) to be sure it operates properly. If the volume is low or the tone sounds different than usual, replace the battery. Cautions: • Always remove an old or weak battery. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. • Dispose of an old battery promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury it. 8 49-418.fm Page 9 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM OPERATION To sound the alarm, pull the wrist strap until its plug pulls out of the personal alarm’s jack. Caution: The alarm is very loud. If you want to test it, be sure you warn people 9 49-418.fm Page 10 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM who are nearby before you pull the wrist strap. To muffle the sound during the test, press the bottom of the personal alarm against a sound absorbing surface (a pillow, for example). To stop the alarm, simply reinsert the wrist strap’s plug into the personal alarm’s jack. 10 49-418.fm Page 11 Wednesday, August 18, 1999 4:57 PM CARE To enjoy your RadioShack Personal Alarm for a long time: • Keep the alarm dry.
