Do not use the appliance in a room that is not illuminated by any other light source. • It is not advisable to look into the light too long. • After the first few light baths you may experience some eye strain and/or a light headache. These side effects tend to disappear quickly. • Consult your doctor before you start using the appliance if: -you have suffered from or are suffering from severe depression; -you are hypersensitive to light (e.g. diabetics and epileptics); -you have eye complaints; -you are on specific medication (i.e. certain antidepressants, psychotropic drugs or malaria tablets); -you have high blood pressure. • If using the appliance causes you to become too active, we advise you to reduce the light dose. If there is no improvement, we advise you to consult your doctor. • If you feel exhausted, distressed or restless and/or suffer from sleeping problems (e.g. insomnia) after having used the appliance, it is always advisable to consult your doctor or psychotherapist. • This appliance meets the requirements of MDD 93/42/EEC for medical appliances. General description (fig. 1) Making the appliance ready for use A Tube lamps (type Philips Original Bright Light PL-L 55 W) B Reflector C Opalescent/satin screen (acryllic) D On/Off switch E Suspension hole F Stand (fold-out) G Handle (for transport) H Screw and plug (for hanging the appliance) 2 3 mm -Hang the appliance on the wall (fig. 2) or unfold the stand (fig. 3) and place it on a table top. -Insert the plug into a wall socket (220-240V) (fig. 4). 4 4 Light bath - Switch on (fig. 5). - Position yourself in front of the appliance (fig. 6). For a light bath, the distance between your face and the opalescent/satin screen should be between 25 and 75 cm. • The advisable duration of the lightbath depends on the selected operational distance: approx. 2 hours for a distance of approx. 75 cm (fig. 7); approx. 1 hour for a distance of approx. 50 cm (fig. 8); approx. 1.2 hour for a distance of approx. 25 cm (fig. 9). • You need not take the whole lightbath without a break. If it suits your schedule better, you may interrupt your lightbath and continue it later. Even the 30 minute session may be split into two sessions if you wish. • You may look into the lamps every now and then, not continuously. So you are free to engage in such activities as reading, writing, fancy-work or handiwork, and look into the lamps every now and then (figs. 10, 11). • Preferably have your lightbaths between 8 o’clock in the morning (a.m.) and 8 o’clock in the evening (p.m.) (fig. 12). • Repeat the lightbaths until you feel better. Generally, improvements occur within one week. So as a rule, we advise you to repeat the lightbath on at least 5 successive days (fig. 13). • You may repeat the light bath as much as you like, during the ‘dark period’ of the year. Do repeat the lightbath on at least five successive days. After use - Switch the appliance off (fig. 14) and remove the plug from the wall socket. - You can lift the appliance by its handle (fig. 15). Cleaning Always unplug the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning. • You can clean the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth (fig. 16). Make sure that no water runs into the appliance (fig. 17). Replacing the tube lamps After approx. 10.000 hours (many years in normal use) we advise you to replace the tube lamps. Have the tube lamps replaced only by Philips Original Bright Light PL-L 55W. You can have the tube lamps replaced by authorized service 18 19 22 23 1 2 24 CLICK 25 CLICK 18 19 22 23 1 2 24 CLICK 25 CLICK -Remove the screen (figs. 18 and 19). -Bend the bracket, which keeps the lamp to its place, a little sidewards and remove it (fig. 22). -Press the red button and pull the tube lamp forward, out of the lampholder (fig. 23). -When placing a tube lamp, follow these instructions in reverse order (figs. 24 and 25). Note: While sliding the tube light into the lampholder you need not press the red button. As soon as you hear a ‘Click!’, the lamp is placed correctly. The tube lamps contain substances which may pollute the environment. When discarding lamps, please ensure that they are separated from the normal household refuse and that they are disposed of at an officially assigned place.
