Coaxial Digital Audio Output (DVD only) Use this connection in conjunction with the integrated DVD player in order to output digital audio to a home theater receiver. The home theater receiver must be equipped with a coaxial digital audio input jack. For your reference: When DVDs recorded in Dolby Digital or MPEG audio are played, Dolby Digital or MPEG audio bitstream is sent to the player’s digital audio output connector. When the player is connected to a Dolby Digital or MPEG audio decoder via one of these output sockets, you can enjoy theater-quality audio in your home. A digital audio cable is required when a Dolby Digital decoder or MPEG audio decoder is used. Dolby Digital is a digital sound compression technique developed by the Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. This techniques supports both 5.1-channel surround sound and stereo (2-channel) sound, and enables a large quantity of sound data to be recorded efficiently onto a disc.
