Slide the CHARGE switch to the CHARGE position. Insert the AC Adapter to the jack labelled “DC 12V” on the unit and to a wall outlet having 120V, 60Hz only. Charging time is approximately 12 hours. Slide the switch to the EXT. or BATT position when finished charging. IMPORTANT NOTES: • Do not attempt to turn on the unit while charging batteries. • Do not attempt to charge batteries other than rechargeable type intended for this unit (Ni-Cad). ANTENNA The built-in telescopic antenna can be used to receive VHF and UHF TV channels. To improve TV reception, connect an external antenna to the antenna adapter and plug the adapter into the External Antenna Jack on the rear of the TV. EARPHONE JACK An earphone jack is provided for private listening. To listen to the unit with an earphone, set the volume to minimum and insert an earphone into the Earphone jack. The speaker will be disconnected when a plug is inserted in the jack. Adjust the VOLUME as desired. EXT/BATT/CHARGE SWITCH Slide this switch to the EXT position when using the external AC adaptor or Car adaptor. Slide this switch to the BATT position when using batteries and to the CHARGE position when recharging rechargeable batteries. 5 MT0501.OM O/M 8/13/02 10:35 AM Page 6 TV OPERATION TO VIEW A CHANNEL Make sure the EXT/BATT/ CHARGE switch is set properly (see page 5). Slide the TV/ OFF/RADIO switch to the TV position to turn the TV on. 1 Tune a desired TV station by turning the TUNING control . and adjust the VOLUME control . as desired. 1 2 3 Slide the BAND switch to the desired setting: VL: Channels 2–6 VH Channels 7–13 UHF Channels 14–83 2 Adjust the rod antenna for best picture. 4 Slide the TV/OFF/RADIO switch to the OFF position to turn the TV off. 6 Adjust picture controls, as described below, for best picture. 5 PICTURE CONTROLS NOTES: • When you change channels, the telescopic antenna may have to be re-adjusted for best picture. • If reception is poor, even after adjusting telescopic antenna, use an external antenna. The finish on the unit may be cleaned with a dust cloth and cared for as other furniture. Mild soap and a dampened cloth may be used. MAINTENANCE Do not expose this unit to an excessively hot environment for extended periods of time. Extreme heat could cause component failure or reduce component life. TRAFFIC SAFETY • Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. • Even if your headset is an open air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, do not turn the volume up so high that you cannot hear what is around you. • Use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
