Never operate the heater if it is not completely filled with water. To make sure the heater is filled, open the hot faucet of an upstairs tap, until there is a full flow of water with no air coming through the tap. Flue Pipe. Once a year, inspect the flue pipe leading from the heater to the chimney. If corrosion is evident, or discolouration at the joints can be seen, replace the flue pipes.
