RAID
The xw8200 has both an integrated Intel ICH5R SATA RAID controller and an integrated LSI 320
SCSI RAID controller that support RAID 0 (Striping, for performance) and RAID 1 (Mirroring for fault
tolerance). For SCSI AMO, the AA850A U320 single channel controller provides support for various
RAID levels including 0 and 1. For SATA, the ED090AA SATA RAID controller (factory RAID
enablement not supported) provide support for RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 0+1 (combination of RAID
0 and RAID 1). In all cases disks being RAIDed must be identical. Also note that using RAID 1 halves
the amount of available storage.
Cabling
For Factory-integrated storage, all required cabling is provided. For xw8200 AMO storage, the
AA818A 5-Port SCSI cable should be ordered with any SCSI controller if internal HDDs will be
connected to the SCSI controller. The AA658A U320 SCSI Back Panel cable kit allows external SCSI
devices to be connected to the integrated LSI 320 SCSI controller. For those customers who desire to
install their own EIDE drive(s) the DY660A EIDE Cable Kit is provided as an AMO item.
Summary
The xw8200 provides a large amount of highly-configurable storage.
