Please attach a commercially available kick pedal to the KD-5. Use the connector cable (monaural) included in this package to set up the KD-5 with the TD-5 or TD-7. ■ Using the Velcro Strip to Secure the KD-5 If you are going to use the KD-5 on a hard floor surface, then you can just use it as it is, without securing it. However, if you're using it on pile carpeting, then applying the Velcro strip to the rubber foot can help to hold it in place (see figure below). Before you apply the Velcro, be sure to wipe the surface clean to make sure it is free of dust or dirt. After applying the Velcro, it takes 24 hours for a tight bond to form. ■ MIX IN Jack Connecting the OUTPUT jack on another KD-5 to the MIX IN jack on the first KD-5 lets you use the setup as a double kick drum. To use a double kick drum setup, you will need to re-adjust the trigger parameter (TRIGGER SENS) on the sound module (TD-5), since the output level will be reduced compared with times when only one KD-5 is used. Be sure that you connect the second KD-5 to the MIX IN jack. * Because the KD-5 and the KD-7 have different output signal characteristics (levels), the levels will not match up perfectly when a KD-7 is connected to the MIX IN jack on the KD-5. ■ Output Level Control Connecting another KD-5 to the MIX IN jack on the first KD-5 lets you fine-tune the output of the two KD-5 units with the Output Level control. To lower the unit's output level, use a flathead screwdriver to turn the Output Level control counterclockwise. The Output Level control should normally be left at its maximum setting. ■ Part Names A. Output Level Control B. MIX IN Jack C. OUTPUT Jack D. Rubber Foot E. Pad Face (with built-in sensor) F. Beater The beater and sensor on the KD-5 are parts that eventually wear out. Replacements are available for purchase. Contact the store where you bought the KD-5, or your nearest Roland Sales Center or Roland Service Station. G. Kick Pedal (available separately) ■ Main Specifications Dimensions 172 ( W) x 112 (D) x 100 (H) mm 6-13/16 (W) x 4-7/16 (D) x 3-15/16 (H) inches • Weight 1,200 g (including the beater) 2 lbs 11 oz (including the beater) ■ IMPORTANT NOTES # Do not subject the unit to temperature extremes (e.g. direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle). Avoid using or storing the unit in dusty or humid areas. # Do not install the unit near devices that radiate heat. # Although the KD-5 was carefully designed so as to reduce to the absolute minimum the unwanted sound that might be produced when played (impact and other operational sounds), even small amounts of such vibrational sounds can quite easily We transmitted through floors and walls. For this reason, we suggest that you exercise caution (especially in the late hours of the night) to avoid disturbing others within your residence or the immediate neighborhood. ■ MAINTENANCE # For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth (or one that has been slightly dampened with water). To remove stubborn dirt, use a mild neutral detergent. Afterwards, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth. # Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of any kind, to avoid the risk of discoloration and/or deformation. ■A° "J >T -5/ IZ A o X L\510) 1.
