Using Your VAIO Computer > Using the Keyboard n 38 N Combination/Feature Function Fn + /T (F7): display output Switches the display output between your computer screen and an external display. Press the Enter key to select the display output. If you connect the supplied or optional docking station to the computer, you can select graphics modes. See Selecting Graphics Modes (page 131) for more information. ! If you disconnect a display cable from your computer or the docking station while an external display is selected as the display output destination, the computer screen goes blank. In such a case, press the P key twice while holding down the Windows key, and then press the Enter key to switch the display output to the computer screen. Use of multiple monitors may not be supported depending on the connected external display. Fn + / (F9/F10): zooming Changes the size of an image or a document displayed on some software. To make the view look smaller and further away (zoom out), press the Fn+F9 keys. To make the view look bigger and closer (zoom in), press the Fn+F10 keys. See the help file included with the VAIO Control Center for more information. Fn + (F12): hibernation Provides the lowest level of power consumption. When you execute this command, the states of the system and the connected peripheral devices are saved to the built-in storage device and the system power is turned off. To return the system to its original state, use the power button to turn on the power. For details on power management, see Using the Power Saving Modes (page 30). Using Your VAIO Computer > Using the Keyboard n 39 N Changing the Backlit Keyboard Settings Some features and options may not be available on your computer. If your computer is equipped with a backlit keyboard, you can set the keyboard light to automatically turn on and off according to ambient light intensity. Additionally, you can set a time period to turn off the keyboard backlight after inactivity of keyboard operations. To change the backlit keyboard settings 1 Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Control Center. 2 Click Keyboard and Mouse and Backlit Keyboard. . Ambient light intensity is measured by the ambient light sensor. Blocking the ambient light sensor may turn on the keyboard backlight. Using Your VAIO Computer > Using the Touch Pad n 40 N Using the Touch Pad By sliding your finger on the touch pad (1), you can move the pointer (2) on the computer screen. With the pointer on your desired item or object, press the left button zone or the right button zone to execute various commands or display menus. n 41 N Using Your VAIO Computer > Using the Touch Pad About the touch pad zone Zone Description Active zone Slide your finger on this zone to move the pointer. Left button zone Press anywhere on this zone to left-click. Right button zone Press anywhere on this zone to right-click. Vertical scroll zone Slide your finger vertically on this zone to scroll up and down. Using Your VAIO Computer > Using the Touch Pad n 42 N To use the touch pad zone Action Description Point Slide your finger on the active zone to place the pointer on an item or object. Click Press the left button zone once. Double-click Press the left button zone twice in a row. Right-click Press the right button zone once. With many applications, this action displays a context-sensitive shortcut menu (if any). Drag Slide your finger on the active zone while pressing the left button zone. Scroll vertically Slide two fingers vertically on the active zone or slide a finger on the vertical scroll zone (the scroll function is available only with applications that support a touch pad scroll feature). Scroll horizontally Slide two fingers horizontally on the active zone (the scroll function is available only with applications that support a touch pad scroll feature). Flick Slide three fingers linearly in quick motion on the active zone. On web browsers or image viewer software, you can flick left to move backward and flick right to move forward. . You can disable/enable the touch pad by pressing the Fn+F1 keys. You can also use the VAIO Control Center to change the touch pad settings. ! Be sure to connect a mouse before disabling the touch pad. If you disable the touch pad before connecting a mouse, you will be able to use only the keyboard for pointer operations. Using Your VAIO Computer > Using Special-function Buttons n 43 N Using Special-function Buttons Your computer is equipped with special buttons to help you use specific functions of the computer. The ASSIST button, the WEB button, and the VAIO button on the computer are touch sensor buttons. Unintentional touch with each button may execute the corresponding function or task.
