4 Verify that the machine is in the Copy mode. If necessary, press Copy to change the mode to Copy mode. In Copy mode, the LCD display shows: Copy size Number of copies Note that you cannot make copies in Fax mode. The machine will sounds an error beep. 5 Make sure that you have selected the required paper tray. See page 4.2. 6 Enter the number of copies required by using the Number Keypad. COPYING 4.5 7 Customize the copy settings including copy size and image type using the control panel buttons. See “Setting Copy Options” on page 4.6. To clear the settings, use Stop/Clear. 8 If necessary, you can use various copy features, such as Book Copy, Auto Fit. See “Using Copy Menu Features” on page 4.11 and “Using Special Copying Features” on page 4.16. 9 Press Start to begin copying. The display shows the copy processing. NOTES: • You can cancel a copy job while it is copying by pressing Stop/ Clear twice. • Dust on the document scanner glass may cause black spots on the printout, so always keep it clean. Setting Copy Options The following buttons on the control panel let you set all the basic copy options; Darkness, Reduce/Enlarge, Duplex, Collation, Original Type. When making a copy, use these buttons before pressing Start. Adjusting the Contrast Using Darkness, you can adjust the brightness to make a copy that is easier to read if you have an original document containing faint markings or dark images. To adjust the contrast, take the following steps: 1 Load the documents to be copied in the DADF. Or, place a sheet of the documents on the document glass face down. 2 Make sure that you have selected the required paper tray. See page 4.2. COPYING 3 To enter Darkness mode, press Darkness. You can see the current setting on the bottom line of the display and the corresponding green LED is lighted. 4 Press Darkness or the scroll buttons until the corresponding green LED of the desire mode lights. You can choose from: Light: works well with dark print. Normal: works well with standard typed or printed documents. Dark: works well with light print or faint pencil markings. 5 If necessary, you can use various copy features, such as Book Copy, Auto Fit. See “Using Copy Menu Features” on page 4.11 and “Using Special Copying Features” on page 4.16. 6 Press Start to begin copying. 4 Adjusting the Copy Size Using Reduce/Enlarge, you can reduce or enlarge the size of a copied image by 25% to 400% when you copy the original from the document scanner glass, and by 25% to 100% using the DADF. Note that the zoom rate available is different according to the document loading method. 1 Load the documents to be copied in the DADF. Or, place a sheet of the documents on the document glass face down. 2 Make sure that you have selected the required paper tray. See page 4.2. 3 Press Reduce/Enlarge. Enter the size using the number keypad or press Reduce/Enlarge or the scroll buttons. 4 Press Enter to save the selection. You can see the current size in the left bottom corner of the display. You can choose from: Text: used for documents containing mostly text. Text/Photo: used for documents with mixed text and graphics. Photo: used when the originals are photographs. 5 If necessary, you can use various copy features, such as Book Copy, Auto Fit. See “Using Copy Menu Features” on page 4.11 and “Using Special Copying Features” on page 4.16. 6 Press Start to begin copying. COPYING Sorting the Copy Output Using Collation, you can make your machine sorts the copy job. For example, if you make 2 copies of 3 pages documents, one complete 3 page document will print followed by the second complete 3 page document. 1 Load the documents to be copied in the DADF. Or, place a sheet of the documents on the document glass face down. 2 Make sure that you have selected the required paper tray. See page 4.2. 3 Enter the number of copies required by using the Number Keypad. 4 To enter Collation mode, press Collation.
