HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 MU3 requirements
This section describes the supported HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 MU3 host environment, system
requirements, and database selection.
Supported HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 MU3 host environment
Component
Requirement
Processor
Intel Pentium 4 processor, 3 GHz or higher. Multi-core processors are recommended both for
the database server and for the HP 3PAR System Reporter server, especially when sampling a
large configuration (large number of HP 3PAR System Reporter systems or those with a large
number of objects). See system sizing spreadsheet.
Memory
At least 1 GB. See system sizing spreadsheet.
Disk Space
At least 20 GB of available disk space. See system sizing spreadsheet.
The system size mentioned in the table above (CPU cores, memory size and disk space), is a minimum
requirement for HP 3PAR System Reporter. However, the resources required depends substantially on
the number and size of the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems that are being sampled, as well as
the sampling parameters. The CD includes a system sizing spreadsheet (SR_Sizing.xls), that should be
used to determine the number of CPU cores, the amount of memory and the database space needed.
Instructions for using the spreadsheet are included within the spreadsheet.
HP 3PAR Storage system requirements
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 (all MUs), 3.1.3 (all MUs), or 3.2.1.
Database selection
Before installing HP 3PAR System Reporter, you must decide the database plan to use. HP 3PAR System
Reporter 3.1 MU3 supports the following databases:

MySQL (not included), is the recommended database. It must be obtained and installed separately.
HP 3PAR System Reporter uses MyISAM tables in MySQL. These tables do not support transactions
(that are not needed by HP 3PAR System Reporter) and as a result perform well even when they
grow large. For a very large database and sample sizes, MySQL is recommended. The MySQL
can be on a remote database server host, and not necessarily on a machine on which HP 3PAR
System Reporter is installed.

SQLite (default, included with HP 3PAR System Reporter). SQLite databases have significant
limitations that you must consider before opting to use them. The main limitation is that because
it uses very coarse-grain locking, it is only suited for situations requiring smaller database size
and limited concurrency. If the database size is expected to grow to more than about 1 GB or if
reports are run very frequently, HP recommends using either MySQL or Oracle databases. SQLite
is not supported when sampling more than one HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage array.

Microsoft SQL Server (not included) must be obtained and installed separately and can be run
on a remote host. HP 3PAR System Reporter Software uses ODBC to connect to the Microsoft SQL
Server. HP 3PAR System Reporter Software does not support Microsoft SQL Server through ODBC
on Linux platforms.

Oracle (not included) must be obtained and installed separately. Performance of sample insertion
with Oracle is a little lower than that of MySQL, but Oracle is also a good choice for large
databases. The Oracle database can be on a remote database server host, and not necessarily
on a machine on which HP 3PAR System Reporter is installed. Note that 64-bit Red Hat Linux is
not supported if using Oracle because it requires a 32-bit Oracle client to be installed, and this
is not supported on 64-bit Linux.
