Thank you for your purchase of the EH-31 AC Adapter (Figure A). The EH-31 is for use exclusively with the COOLPIX 990 digital camera and should only be used with a power source of 100–240V and 50 or 60Hz. Important! The symbol indicates important safety precautions that must be observed to ensure safe operation of this product. Be sure to read all sections marked with this symbol before use. . Caution The symbol . indicates areas in which caution is needed to avoid damaging the product. Sections marked with this symbol should be read before use to ensure that the product continues to operate properly. Connecting the AC Adapter Before connecting the AC adapter, be sure the camera is off. Follow these steps to connect the adapter (see Figure B): 1 Plug the power cable into the AC adapter. Caution: Use only the cable provided with your EH-31. Depending on the country of purchase, the cable provided will be rated for power sources of 100– 120V or 220–240V. 2 Open the door which covers the DC IN connector and insert the power jack into the DC IN connector. . Caution: The power jack must be fully inserted in the DC IN connector. 3 Plug the power cable into a power outlet. You are now ready to turn the camera on. Caution: Be sure to use a power source appropriate to the cable provided in your country or region. Using another cable or incorrect voltage could result in fire or electric shock. When operating the camera with the AC adapter, take care that the camera does not accidentally become unplugged. Do not carry the camera with you while the adapter is connected. Caution: The adapter is for indoor use only. Use the battery when operating your COOLPIX 990 out of doors. Note: Avoid using the camera continuously for long periods with the AC adapter, as the camera may overheat. Note: The adapter may produce a slight hum when in operation. This does not indicate a malfunction. Note: The adapter may generate radio noise when in use. Do not use in the vicinity of a radio or television set. Disconnecting the AC Adapter Before disconnecting the AC adapter, be sure the camera is off. Unplug the power jack from the camera’s DC connector, then unplug the power cable from the power source by pulling on the plug. Unplugging the adapter by the cable could damage the cable’s protective insulation, leading to fire or electric shock (see Figure C). . Caution: Do not unplug the AC adapter when the camera is on, or when data are being recorded to or deleted from memory. Forcibly cutting power to the camera when in these circumstances could result in loss of data or in damage to the camera’s internal memory. Cautions Improper use of the EH-31 could result in fire or electric shock. Use should be accompanied by the following precautions. • Be sure to use a voltage appropriate to the cable provided with your adapter. Depending on the country of purchase, the cable provided will be rated for 100–120V or 220–240V. • Should you notice smoke or an unusual smell or noise coming from the adapter, immediately turn the camera off and then unplug the power cable from the power source. After confirming that the adapter is no longer smoking, take it to a Nikon-authorized service center for inspection. Do not attempt repairs yourself. • Be careful not to damage the power cable’s protective insulation. Do not cut or abrade the cable, expose the cable to heat or flame, or place heavy objects on the cable.
