If you are unable to access the virtual disk, do the following:
• Check the switch zoning database.
• Use HP Command View EVA to verify the host presentations.
• Verify all cabling to the switch, Enterprise Virtual Array, and host.
• Verify al firmware levels (check the associated Enterprise Virtual Array release notes for details).
• Ensure that you are running a supported version of the host operating system (see the operating
system release notes).
• Check the SRM console firmware on Alpha servers.
• Ensure that the correct host is selected for this virtual disk and that a unique OS Unit ID is used
in HP Command View EVA.
• Ensure that Tru64 UNIX is selected as the operating system for the virtual disk in HP Command
View EVA.
• Check that the correct Tru64 FCA Device Driver (emx) is installed on the operating system.
Configuring virtual disks from the host
After you set up the virtual disks on the EVA3000/5000 and have rescanned or restarted the host, follow
the host-specific conventions for configuring these new disk resources. For instructions on setting up disk
resources, see the documentation that came with your server.
The operating system treats an EVA virtual disk much like a SCSI disk. Use the following procedure to
prepare your virtual disk for access by the operating system file system:
1. Create a file system on the virtual disk.
2. Mount the file system (to gain access to the virtual disk).
Creating partitions on a virtual disk using disklabel
Create the partitions on a virtual disk by issuing the disklabel command, which partitions the virtual
disk for access by Tru64 UNIX.
NOTE:
For more information about the disklabel utility, see the disklabel man page.
To read and write a disk pack label and format disk partitions, issue the fol owing command:
# disklabel disk
Where disk is the character device name found in /dev/rdisk. For example, to create partitions on
device dsk464, issue the following commands:
# disklabel -z dsk464
# disklabel -rw dsk464
To view a virtual disk partition on dsk464, issue the following command:
# disklabel -r dsk464
