. IMPORTANT • Do not attempt to remove the battery-chamber cover before the coupling contacts cover or you may damage the camera. • To avoid losing the coupling contacts and battery-chamber covers, be sure to attach each to its respective holder on the MB-E5700. . IMPORTANT • Whenever you attach or remove the battery pack, be sure that the camera is off and that the shutter-release button locking ring on the battery pack is in the L position. • Replace the battery-chamber cover by inserting the cover’s right peg into the hole at Figure 2H-, then slide the left peg (closest to the coupling contacts) into its slot. Slide the coupling contacts cover back into place (Figure 2H-). Be sure to replace the battery-chamber cover before the coupling contacts cover. For more information, refer to the Guide to Digital Photography included with your camera. 5 Insert the battery pack as shown in Figure 2C. 6 Firmly tight en the at tach ment wheel as shown in Figure 2D. To remove the battery pack, reverse the above steps. . IMPORTANT • If you will not be using the battery pack for long periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. • When replacing batteries, be sure to replace all six batteries at the same time and with new batteries of the same make and model. Never mix old and new batteries or batteries of different makes. Failure to observe this precaution could result in fi re, electric shock, or in the batteries rupturing. Battery Pack Shut ter-Release and Zoom Buttons The battery pack is equipped with shutter-release and zoom buttons for taking vertical-orientation photographs. These serve the same function as the shutter-release and zoom but tons on the camera. For de tails, please refer to the Guide to Digital Photography in clud ed with your camera. The shutter-release button on the battery pack is equipped with a locking mechanism. To use the battery pack shutter-release button, rotate the lock ing ring to the • (on) position. The shutter-release button lock ing ring on the battery pack cannot be used for turn ing the camera on and off. To turn the camera on and off, use the camera’s power switch. When the camera is in shooting mode, pressing (for wide angle) on the zoom button zooms the camera out, while pressing (for telephoto) zooms the camera in. In full-screen review mode or full-screen playback mode press to trigger playback zoom and press for thumbnail playback. Inserting Batteries (Use Six LR6 (AA) Batteries) Before inserting batteries, be sure that the camera is off and that the shutter-release but ton locking ring on the battery pack is in the L position. 1 Slide the battery holder latch on the side of the battery pack to the position and remove the battery holder (Fig ure 2E). 2 Insert six LR6 (AA) batteries, taking care to orient the battery terminals as shown on the inside of the battery holder (Fig ure 2F). Note that all the batteries have the same orientation. 3 Slide the battery holder into the battery pack and slide the battery holder latch to the position (Figure 2G). 4 Turn the camera on and check the battery level in the control panel, or in the monitor or viewfi nder. To remove the batteries, reverse the above steps. Note that the life of LR6 (AA) alkaline batteries varies with battery make and condition. Some LR6 (AA) alkaline batteries can not be used. Cold Weather Use The capacity of LR6 (AA) batteries tends to decrease sharply at temperatures below approximately 10 °C / 50 °F. We recommend keeping batteries warm until use.
